There was no surprise in Las Palmas where 10th ranked Gran Canaria II (9-14) was edged by third ranked Almansa (17-5) 83-82 on Saturday. Gran Canaria II trailed by 11 points after 3 quarters before a 28-18 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 82-83 at the end of the game. Almansa forced 21 Gran Canaria II turnovers. The best player for the winners was American-Puerto Rican guard Bobby Harris (185-91, college: Amer.Internat., agency: Duran International) who scored 17 points and 6 rebounds. Guard Alejandro Jorda (193-95, college: Cuesta JC) chipped in 16 points. Polish center Aleksander Balcerowski (215-0, agency: Octagon Europe) produced a double-double by scoring 18 points, 16 rebounds and 4 blocks and Montenegrin guard Jovan Kljajic (197-1) added 25 points and 5 assists respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Almansa have an impressive seven-game winning streak. Newly promoted Almansa maintains third position in Group B with 17-5 record having just two point less than leader Vic. Loser Gran Canaria II stay at the bottom place with 14 games lost. Almansa will face Alcobendas (#7) at home in the next round. Gran Canaria II will play against Rivas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
