Second Stage Round 8: Shumen - Beroe-2 98-67

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both fifth ranked Shumen and 6th ranked Beroe-2 had identical 1-6 record. This time Shumen used a home court advantage and crushed the opponent from Stara Zagora 98-67 on Sunday night. Shumen dominated down low during the game scoring 74 of its points in the paint compared to Beroe-2's 38. Shumen forced 19 Beroe-2 turnovers and outrebounded them 46-28 including a 35-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Beroe-2's players. Worth to mention a great performance of power forward Andrey Ivanov (206-96) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 17 points, 18 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Yanko Yankov (198-88) who added 25 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists during the contest. Four Shumen players scored in double figures. Shumen's coach zvonko Papak felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Swingman Martin Radnev (192-89) responded with 19 points and 7 rebounds and guard Evgeni Vasilev (192-99) scored 20 points. Shumen maintains fifth position in A with 2-6 record. Newly promoted Beroe-2 keeps the sixth place with seven games lost. Shumen will face league's leader BUBA in Sofia in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Beroe-2 will play at home against Chavdar (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
