There was no surprise in Changhua City where 9th ranked Taiwanese Formosa D. (1-18) was defeated by fifth ranked Singapore Singapore Slingers (11-8) 87-69 on Sunday. Singapore Slingers dominated down low during the game scoring 74 of its points in the paint compared to Formosa D.'s 34. Singapore Slingers forced 20 Formosa D. turnovers and outrebounded them 43-24 including a 32-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great evening for American power forward Christien Charles (216-81, college: Villanova) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 17 rebounds and 5 blocks. Thailand Alfred Mandani helped adding 30 points and 7 steals. Four Singapore Slingers players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American forward Cameron Forte (201-93, college: Portland St.) with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists and Salvadorean-American center Ronnie Aguilar (216-87, college: CS Dominguez H.) scored 19 points and 7 rebounds. Formosa D.'s coach rotated eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Singapore Slingers maintains fifth place with 11-8 record. Formosa D. lost their fifteenth game in a row. They stay dead last with 18 lost games. Singapore Slingers will meet Saigon Heat (#6) on the road in the next round. Formosa D. will play against Hong Kong ELL and hope to win that game.
