PeKa fired past Espoo Team in the opener. The hosts trailed by 4 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 6-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 73-42. Peli-Karhut dominated on the defensive end, holding Espoo Team to just 6 points in third and fourth quarters. Peli-Karhut forced 24 Espoo Team turnovers. American forward Akilah Sims (178-94, college: IUPUI, agency: LBM Management) stepped up and scored 17 points and 6 rebounds for the winners and her fellow American import forward Megan Mullings (185-92, college: Alaska-Anch., agency: Octagon Europe) chipped in 8 points and 11 rebounds. Four Peli-Karhut players scored in double figures. Peli-Karhut's coach Roope Makela felt very confident using 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side American forward Kamilah Jackson (181-92, college: Hawaii) responded with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 20 rebounds and international swingman Lotta Aaltonen (180-85, college: Coker) scored 3 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists.
