Regular Season Round 26: Flamengo - Vitoria 89-75

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Flamengo as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Flamengo defeated 8th ranked Universo/Vitoria in Rio de Janeiro 89-75. Flamengo made 22-of-27 charity shots (81.5 percent) during the game. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. The former international Marquinhos Vieira (207-84) notched 22 points and 8 rebounds (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) to lead the effort and the former international Marcelo Machado (201-75, agency: Interperformances) supported him with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Even a double-double of 10 points and 13 rebounds by center Douglas Kurtz (213-87, college: Hawaii) did not help to save the game for Universo/Vitoria. American point guard Kenny Dawkins (175-87, college: Lamar) added 17 points and 5 assists for the guests. Four Universo/Vitoria players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Flamengo (25-3) have an impressive 12-game winning streak. As mentioned above they took over a top position. Universo/Vitoria lost third consecutive game. They keep the eighth place with 14 games lost. They share the position with Minas.
