Dnipro held off Zaporizhye in the opener. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 21-13. But Zaporizhye won second period 25-22. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Dnipro made 23-of-27 free shots (85.2 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Dnipro made 8 blocks. The former international forward Stanislav Tymofeyenko (204-89, agency: Octagon Europe) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocks for the winners and the former international swingman Dmytro Gliebov (198-88) chipped in 14 points and 6 assists (made all of his seven free throws). At the losing side guard Andriy Kozhemiakin (190-96, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) responded with 15 points and 4 assists and the former international guard Oleksii Shchepkin (191-89) scored 16 points and 4 assists. Four Dnipro and five Zaporizhye players scored in double figures. Zaporizhye's coach Valeriy Plehanov rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help.
