Regular Season Round 31: San-en - SeaHorses 89-92

Third-ranked San-en NeoPhoenix (22-27) made lots of trouble for first ranked Aishin Sea Horses (41-8) in Hamamatsu. The visitors from Kariya managed to secure only three-point victory 92-89. However their fans expected easier game. Aishin Sea Horses made 20-of-24 charity shots (83.3 percent) during the game. Aishin Sea Horses outrebounded San-en NeoPhoenix 42-30 including 32 on the defensive glass. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international center JR Sakuragi (206-76, college: UCLA) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 24 points, 12 rebounds and 9 assists. The former international swingman Makoto Hiejima (190-90) contributed with 20 points and 6 assists for the winners. Four Aishin Sea Horses players scored in double figures. Aishin Sea Horses' coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American guard Wendell White (198-84, college: UNLV) answered with a double-double by scoring 42 points (!!!), 10 rebounds and 9 assists and guard Shuto Tawatari (185-90) added 20 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for San-en NeoPhoenix. Aishin Sea Horses have an impressive series of seventeen victories in a row. They maintain first place with 41-8 record. San-en NeoPhoenix lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the third position with 27 games lost. Aishin Sea Horses will play against league's leader Chiba Jets on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. San-en NeoPhoenix will play against Toyama Grouses and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
