Pinheiros upset Basket Caerense on the road in the opener. Pinheiros made 20-of-25 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game, while SKY/Basquete only scored one point from the stripe. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Desmond Holloway (191-90, college: Co.Carolina) who helped to win the game recording 22 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. His fellow American import guard Cordero Bennett (188-88) contributed with 17 points and 4 steals for the winners. Pinheiros' coach Cesar Guidetti used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Naturalized Italian point guard Paulinho Boracini (183-84) answered with 19 points and 6 rebounds and the former international center Leonardo Klassmann (208-89) added 11 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for SKY/Basquete. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures.
