Regular Season Round 5: Diamond VE - Bendigo LB 65-92

Very expected game in Greensborough where 7th ranked Diamond Valley Eagles (1-1) were rolled over by leader Lady Braves (1-0) 92-65 on Friday. The guests trailed by 7 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 6-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 92-65. Lady Braves dominated on the defensive end, holding Diamond Valley Eagles to just 5 points in second quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Diamond Valley Eagles' 30. They outrebounded Diamond Valley Eagles 47-36 including a 36-25 advantage in defensive rebounds. Lady Braves looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The best player for the winners was power forward Nadeen Payne (188-93, agency: LBM Management) who had a double-double by scoring 37 points (!!!), 12 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international guard Kelly Wilson (170-84) chipped in a double-double by scoring 15 points, 8 rebounds and 12 assists. Lady Braves' coach felt very confident using 10 players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. The former international power forward Lauren Scherf (196-96) produced a double-double by scoring 27 points and 13 rebounds and point guard Maddison Rocci (167-98) added 10 points respectively for the hosts. Lady Braves maintains second place in League with 1-0 record despite having the same number of points like the leader Ballarat R. Loser Diamond Valley Eagles dropped to the fourth position with one game lost. Lady Braves will have a break next round. Diamond Valley Eagles will play on the road against the league's second-placed Spectres (#2) in East Burwood and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
