Regular Season Round 23: Akademik PL - Academic Sofia 85-65

No shocking result in a game when fourth ranked Academik Plovdiv (14-7) crushed at home 6th ranked Academic Sofia (8-10) 85-65 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Academik Plovdiv. Academic Sofia managed to win third quarter 18-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Academik Plovdiv dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Academic Sofia's 30. They outrebounded Academic Sofia 41-23 including a 32-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for point guard Adriyan Sekulov (179-96) who led the winners and scored 14 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. The former international guard Aleksandar Gruev (187-83) accounted for 17 points for the winning side. Four Academik Plovdiv players scored in double figures. International forward Yordan Minchev (202-98) came up with 22 points and 5 rebounds and guard Aleksandar Milov (198-95) added 14 points respectively for Academic Sofia in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Academik Plovdiv maintains fourth place with 14-7 record. Defending champion Academic Sofia keeps the sixth position with ten games lost. Academik Plovdiv will meet at home Cherno More (#8) in the next round. Academic Sofia will play against Spartak Pleven and hope to secure a win.
