Alab Pilipinas rallied past Mono Vampire in the Finals opener. Alab Pilipinas dominated down low during the game scoring 100 of its points in the paint compared to Mono Vampire's 66 and made 19-of-25 free shots (76.0 percent) during the game. Alab Pilipinas forced 19 Mono Vampire turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Alab Pilipinas made 7 blocks. American forward Justin Brownlee (197-88, college: St.John's) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 46 points (!!!), 11 rebounds and 9 assists for the winners and American-Puerto Rican forward Renaldo Balkman (203-84, college: S.Carolina) chipped in 39 points (!!!), 15 rebounds and 4 assists. Brownlee is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Alab Pilipinas' coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side American forward Michael Singletary (198-88, college: Texas Tech) responded with a double-double by scoring 42 points (!!!), 10 rebounds and 6 assists and Filipino-American point guard Jason Brickman (181-91, college: LIU Brooklyn) produced a double-double by scoring 15 points, 8 rebounds, 14 assists and 5 steals. Four Alab Pilipinas and five Mono Vampire players scored in double figures.
