There was no surprise when 8th ranked Pioneros Los Mochis (3-8) were defeated on the road by sixth ranked Rayos de Hermosillo (6-5) 94-82. Rayos de Hermosillo dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Pioneros Los Mochis' 40. Rayos de Hermosillo players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists. American swingman Quinton Chievous (198-92, college: Hampton) orchestrated the victory by scoring 21 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. His fellow American import forward Nick Banyard (203-94, college: Cent.Florida) contributed with 22 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Nigerian-American center Olaniyi Akingkube (208, college: N.Carolina A&T) answered with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists and swingman Manuel Hernandez (193-91) added 21 points in the effort for Pioneros Los Mochis. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Rayos de Hermosillo maintains sixth place with 6-5 record. Pioneros Los Mochis at the other side keep the eighth position with eight games lost. They share it with Mazatlan. Rayos de Hermosillo will again play against Pioneros Los Mochis (#8) at home in the next round. Pioneros Los Mochis will have a break next round.
