Regular Season Round 3: Bayamon - Arecibo 81-96

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Vaqueros (4-2) in Bayamon on Sunday night. Hosts were defeated by Capitanes (4-3) 96-81. The guests trailed by 4 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 5-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 96-81. Capitanes made 20-of-25 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Capitanes outrebounded Vaqueros 42-29 including a 31-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a good game for the former international guard Guillermo Diaz (188-85, college: Miami, FL) who led his team to a victory with 18 points and 6 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). The former international point guard Denis Clemente (183-86, college: Kansas St.) contributed with 17 points and 8 assists for the winners. Naturalized Mexican guard Joseph Soto (190-93) answered with 11 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists and Cuban center Ismael Romero (203-91, agency: Paris Global Sports) added 18 points in the effort for Vaqueros. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Capitanes is looking forward to face Cariduros (#6) in Fajardo in the next round. Vaqueros will play at home against Humacao (#4) and are hoping to win this game.
