Finals Game 1: Ventspils - VEF Riga 94-87

Ventspils prevailed against VEF Riga for 1-0 lead in the championship series. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 28-19. But VEF Riga won second period 26-24. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Ventspils won last quarter 24-19. They made 30-of-36 charity shots (83.3 percent) during the game, while VEF Riga only scored eight points from the stripe. VEF Riga was plagued by 31 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of American-Puerto Rican point guard Emanuel Ubilla (188-86, college: Fair Dickinson, agency: Court Side) who helped to win the game recording 17 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international forward Aigars Skele (192-92) contributed with 20 points for the winners. International forward Mareks Mejeris (207-91, agency: Players Group) answered with 19 points and 8 rebounds and the former international Kaspars Berzins (213-85) added 16 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for VEF Riga. Five Ventspils and four VEF Riga players scored in double figures. VEF Riga's coach Janis Gailitis tested eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game.
