Regular Season Round 5: Ponce - Quebradillas 77-83

Date: May 19, 2018
The most crucial game of the last round was another loss of Leones (4-4) in Juana Diaz on Saturday night. Hosts were defeated by Piratas (5-3) 83-77. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Leones won third quarter 25-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Piratas looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. American forward Reyshawn Terry (203-84, college: N.Carolina) nailed a double-double by scoring 22 points, 17 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side and the former international center Jorge-Bryan Diaz (210-89, college: Nebraska) accounted for 13 points and 5 rebounds. The former international center Peter Ramos (222-85) came up with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds and American forward Michael Young (206-94, college: Pittsburgh) added 18 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Leones in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Piratas have a solid series of four victories in a row. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader. Loser Leones dropped to the fifth place with four games lost. Piratas will meet bottom-ranked Atleticos (#8) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Leones will play against Vaqueros and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
