Regular Season Round 5: Humacao - Aguada 81-78

Date: May 19, 2018
A very interesting game took place in Humacao. It ended with only three-point defeat on the road of 7th ranked Santeros (2-5) to fifth ranked Humacao (4-2) 81-78 on Saturday evening. The hosts were already 11 points ahead after 3 quarters before a 26-18 Santeros' run in the last quarter cut the lead to 81-78 at the end of the game. Humacao made 17-of-21 charity shots (81.0 percent) during the game. Strangely Santeros outrebounded Humacao 41-22 including 28 on the defensive glass. They brought some defensive toughness making 11 blocks. The best player for the winners was naturalized American guard Kyle Vinales (185-92, college: Cent.Conn.St., agency: 011 Sports) who scored 23 points and 5 assists. American forward Brandon Costner (206-87, college: N.Carolina St.) chipped in 17 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Naturalized Dominican forward Jonathan Rodriguez (196-87, college: Campbell) produced 18 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists and the former international center Matt Lopez (213-92, college: Rider) added 15 points and 10 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Santeros' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Humacao moved-up to second place. Santeros at the other side keep the seventh position with five games lost. Humacao's next round opponent will be bottom-ranked Atleticos (#8) in San German which should be theoretically an easy game. Santeros will play at home against Capitanes and hope to win that game.
