Regular Season Round 7: Ponce - Quebradillas 88-84

Date: May 24, 2018
Very important is a road loss of third ranked Piratas (6-4) against fifth ranked Leones (5-5) on Thursday night. Visiting Piratas were defeated by Leones in a tough game in Juana Diaz 84-88. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Piratas. It looked good early as Piratas took a 4-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Leones had a 28-10 second period charge getting the lead and Piratas were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 84-88. Leones players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international swingman Angel-Daniel Vassallo (198-86, college: Virginia Tech) who helped to win the game recording 23 points (made all of his eight free throws). American forward Michael Young (206-94, college: Pittsburgh) contributed with 22 points for the winners. American forward Reyshawn Terry (203-84, college: N.Carolina) answered with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws) and the former international Michael Rosario (190-90, college: Florida) added 20 points in the effort for Piratas. Piratas' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Leones maintains fifth place with 5-5 record. Defending champion Piratas dropped to the second position with four games lost. They share it with Arecibo. Leones will play against Cariduros (#6) in Fajardo in the next round. Piratas will play at home against Atleticos (#8) and hope to get back on the winning track.
