The game in Humacao was also quite interesting. Second ranked Capitanes (7-4) played at the court of 5th ranked Humacao (5-5). Capitanes managed to secure a 4-point victory 91-87 on Sunday. The guests trailed by 12 points at the halftime before their 33-11 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Capitanes made 23-of-29 free shots (79.3 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Nigerian center Jeleel Akindele (216-83, college: Chicago St., agency: BeoBasket) orchestrated the victory by scoring 22 points and 8 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). The former international guard Guillermo Diaz (188-85, college: Miami, FL) contributed with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) for the winners. Naturalized American guard Kyle Vinales (185-92, college: Cent.Conn.St., agency: 011 Sports) replied with 21 points and 8 assists and American forward Brandon Costner (206-87, college: N.Carolina St.) added 19 points and 7 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) in the effort for Humacao. Five Capitanes and four Humacao players scored in double figures. Capitanes maintains second position with 7-4 record behind leader Bayamon. Humacao lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the fifth place with five games lost. Capitanes will face Piratas (#3) in Quebradillas in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Humacao will play on the road against Piratas in Quebradillas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
