Valencia outperformed visiting Gran Canaria in the opener. The hosts trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 36-20 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Valencia Basket dominated on the defensive end, holding Gran Canaria to just 7 points in third quarter. Belgian point guard Sam Van-Rossom (188-86) stepped up and scored 17 points for the winners and Montenegrin power forward Bojan Dubljevic (205-91, agency: BeoBasket) chipped in 6 points and 9 rebounds. At the losing side Swedish swingman Marcus Eriksson (201-93) responded with 11 points and Israeli point guard Gal Mekel (190-88, college: Wichita St., agency: BeoBasket) scored 10 points. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest.
