The most shocking disappointment of round 9 in the BSN was a home defeat of second-best Capitanes (7-6) by third ranked Piratas (8-5) who outscored them by 16 points 84-68 in the game for the second place. It was a key game for the second position in the league. The game without a history. Piratas led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Capitanes' players. The best for the losing side was Nigerian center Jeleel Akindele (216-83, college: Chicago St., agency: BeoBasket) with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds and the former international guard Guillermo Diaz (188-85, college: Miami, FL) scored 20 points and 5 rebounds (went 11 for 11 at the free throw line !!!). Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Defending champion moved-up to second place. Capitanes at the other side dropped to the third position with six games lost. Piratas are looking forward to face Santeros (#6) in Coamo in the next round. Capitanes will play again on the road against the league's second-placed Piratas in Quebradillas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
