Regular Season Round 10: Quebradillas - Arecibo 78-89

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Quebradillas. Third ranked Capitanes faced their biggest opponent Piratas. Guests from Arecibo (8-6) defeated host Piratas (8-7) 89-78. It was a key game for the second position in the league. The guests trailed by 9 points after first quarter, but they stormed back and won the game by 11 points. Capitanes outrebounded Piratas 42-27 including a 16-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Nigerian center Jeleel Akindele (216-83, college: Chicago St., agency: BeoBasket) had a double-double by scoring 10 points, 15 rebounds and 7 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the former international swingman David Huertas (195-87, college: Mississippi) chipped in 21 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Four Capitanes players scored in double figures. At the losing side American forward Reyshawn Terry (203-84, college: N.Carolina) responded with 19 points and the former international center Jorge-Bryan Diaz (210-89, college: Nebraska) scored 8 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Capitanes moved-up to second place. Defending champion Piratas dropped to the third position with seven games lost. Capitanes will meet at home league's leader Vaqueros in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Piratas will play against Cariduros in Fajardo and hope to secure a win.
