Regular Season Round 12: Humacao - Fajardo 77-87
Date: June 7, 2018
We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 5th ranked Humacao (8-8) was defeated at home by sixth ranked Cariduros (7-10) 87-77 on Thursday. The game was mostly controlled by Cariduros. Humacao was better in fourth quarter 29-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Cariduros had a 35-24 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American power forward Eric Dawson (206-84, college: Midwestern St., agency: Interperformances) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 10 points and 13 rebounds and the other American import forward Reginald Buckner (206-91, college: Mississippi) who added 8 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. Dawson is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Cariduros' coach used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. The best for the losing side was American guard Alonzo Gee (198-87, college: Alabama) with 15 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists and international forward Christopher Ortiz (203-93, college: Kent St., agency: Inception Sports) scored 20 points. Four Humacao players scored in double figures. Cariduros maintains sixth position with 7-10 record. Newly promoted Humacao dropped to the fourth place with eight games lost. Cariduros will face bottom-ranked Atleticos (#8) in San German in the next round. Humacao will play on the road against the league's leader Vaqueros (#1) in Bayamon and hope to win that game.
