Tijuana held off Culiacan in the opener. Tijuana Zonkeys outrebounded Caballeros de Culiacan 50-21 including a 37-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. American forward Mychal Ammons (198-92, college: S.Alabama) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 16 rebounds for the winners and naturalized American swingman Karim Scott (196-88) chipped in 27 points. Tijuana Zonkeys' coach James Penny allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. At the losing side American guard Bruce Massey (190-90, college: Middle Tenn.St.) responded with 24 points, 7 assists and 6 steals and the other American import forward DuVaughn Maxwell (201-91, college: Hampton) scored 17 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Caballeros de Culiacan players scored in double figures.
