Regular Season Round 18: Gaiteros - Trotamundos 66-96

Bottom-ranked Gaiteros (0-14) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 96-66 loss to second ranked Trotamundos (11-3) in Maracaibo on Wednesday evening. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. Trotamundos forced 20 Gaiteros turnovers and outrebounded them 53-33 including 19 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. American guard Terrell Stoglin (185-91, college: Maryland, agency: Octagon Europe) scored 20 points and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import forward Deshawn Stephens (203-89, college: San Diego St., agency: HMS) chipped in 13 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Four Trotamundos players scored in double figures. Trotamundos' coach Jorge Arrieta felt very confident that he used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. The best for the losing side was Dominican guard Bernardo Polanco (189-94, agency: Basket Management Solutions) with 31 points and U.S. Virgin Islands-American forward Jamaal Samuel (206-93, college: La-Monroe, agency: Basket Management Solutions) scored 21 points and 9 rebounds. Trotamundos maintains second position with 11-3 record having just three points less than leader Gigantes. Loser Gaiteros still closes the standings with 14 games lost. Trotamundos will meet league's leader Guaros in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Gaiteros will play against Toros (#4) in Maracay and hope to get finally their first victory.
