Regular Season Round 19: Gaiteros - Toros 80-93

Bottom-ranked Gaiteros is still unable to win any game. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their 15th consecutive match to fourth ranked Toros (5-10) 93-80 on Saturday evening. Toros dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Gaiteros' 40. Toros had a 30-18 advantage in offensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 62.5 percentage. Toros looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Gaiteros' players. It was an exceptional evening for the former international center Alejandro Barrios (204-79) who led the winners and scored 26 points and 4 assists. American-Jamaican center Dane Johnson (208-86, college: Hofstra) accounted for 21 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side. Toros' coach Israel Sarmiento allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Center Carlos Rodriguez (206-89) came up with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 12 rebounds and Abraham Ramos added 12 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Gaiteros in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Toros maintains fourth place with 5-10 record. Loser Gaiteros still closes the standings with 15 games lost. Toros will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Gaiteros will play again against Toros (#4) in Maracay and hope to get finally their first victory.
