Regular Season Round 7: Henan - Hunan 97-100

Rather predictable result when seventh ranked Hunan (5-2) edged on the road 9th ranked Henan (2-5) 100-97 on Sunday. Henan was trailing by 1 point at halftime but managed to get 3-point lead after three quarters before a 28-22 charge of Hunan, which allowed them to win the game. They made 22-of-24 free shots (91.7 percent) during the game. Strangely Henan outrebounded Hunan 57-38 including a 24-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. American guard Canyon Barry (198-94, college: Florida) fired 27 points and 9 rebounds (made all of his nine free throws !!!) for the winners. Center JunQi Jiang (202-90) chipped in 23 points and 7 rebounds (on 11-of-13 shooting from the field). American Frank Gaines (191-90, college: IPFW) produced 33 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds and U.S. Virgin Islands forward Rakeem Christmas (206-91, college: Syracuse) added 16 points and 14 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Hunan moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Hebei X. Henan at the other side dropped to the eleventh position with five games lost. Hunan will face Luoyang (#12) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Henan will play against the league's leader Guangxi and hope to win that game.
