Regular Season Round 16: Humacao - Ponce 93-104

Bottom-ranked Leones managed to get a ninth victory, breaking the six-game losing streak. This time they won against seventh-ranked Humacao 104-93. It looked good early as Humacao took a 8-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Leones took control and eventually winning the game that evening by 11 points. They made 16-of-20 charity shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Leones players were unselfish on offense dishing 30 assists comparing to just 16 passes made by Humacao's players. Worth to mention a great performance of American-Bosnian point guard Alex Renfroe (191-86, college: Belmont, agency: BeoBasket) who helped to win the game recording 21 points and 9 assists (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Jamaican-American power forward Adrian Uter (201-84, college: Hofstra, agency: BeoBasket) contributed with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Five Leones players scored in double figures. Leones' coach Wilhelmus Caanen allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Naturalized American guard Kyle Vinales (185-92, college: Cent.Conn.St., agency: 011 Sports) replied with 31 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) and American swingman Glen Rice Jr. (198-91, college: Georgia Tech) added 28 points and 4 assists in the effort for Humacao. Leones (9-14) moved-up to seventh place. Humacao lost sixth consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the bottom position with 14 games lost. Leones will play against higher ranked Capitanes (#3) in Arecibo in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Humacao will play on the road against Santeros (#6) in Coamo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
