A very close game took place in Cheltenham between Sabres and Kilsyth Cobras. Sixth ranked Sabres (7-12) got a very close home victory over leader Kilsyth Cobras (15-4). Sabres managed to escape with a 1-point win 80-79 on Sunday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the guest team. The hosts trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 40-38 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Sabres made 28-of-35 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game, while Kilsyth Cobras only scored six points from the stripe. Sabres forced 19 Kilsyth Cobras turnovers. The former international forward David Barlow (205-83, college: Metro St.) fired 15 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Nigerian-American guard Anthony Odunsi (193-92, college: Houston Baptist, agency: Haylett Sports) chipped in 18 points and 5 rebounds. Four Sabres players scored in double figures. American Isaac Turner (191-92, college: St.Vincent) produced 22 points and 5 rebounds and guard Sam Daly (193-95, college: Chaminade) added 16 points respectively for lost side. Despite that victory Sabres went down to seventh position (League) due to points difference. Loser Kilsyth Cobras still keep top place with four games lost. Sabres will meet at home league's second-placed Spectres in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Kilsyth Cobras will play against Frankston Blues in Seaford and hope to secure a win.
