Regular Season Round 19: Arecibo - Humacao 87-86

Eighth-ranked Humacao (8-19) gave a tough game to third ranked Capitanes (16-11) in Arecibo on Tuesday. Capitanes managed to secure only one-point victory 87-86. However their fans expected much easier game. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Humacao won third quarter 24-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Capitanes looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. American forward Davon Jefferson (204-86, college: USC) fired 23 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. The former international guard Guillermo Diaz (188-85, college: Miami, FL) chipped in 9 points, 7 rebounds and 12 assists. American forward Brandon Costner (206-87, college: NC State) produced a double-double by scoring 29 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists and the other American import guard Zach Graham (198-89, college: Mississippi, agency: Pro Sports) added 20 points and 6 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Capitanes have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain third place with 16-11 record having four points less than leader Bayamon. Humacao lost eleventh consecutive game. Newly promoted team stay at the bottom position with 19 games lost. Capitanes will meet at home league's second-placed Piratas in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Humacao will play against Santeros (#5) and hope to secure a win.
