Regular Season Round 19: Quebradillas - Aguada 74-87

Very important is a home loss of second ranked Piratas (17-11) against sixth ranked Santeros (12-14) on Wednesday night. Host Piratas were defeated by Santeros in Quebradillas 87-74. The game was mostly controlled by Santeros. Piratas was better in third quarter 25-24. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Piratas 43-24 including a 28-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. Santeros looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Piratas' players. It was a great evening for international Christopher Gaston (201-89, college: Fordham) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists. American power forward Justin Keenan (202-88, college: Ferris St.) helped adding 16 points and 10 rebounds. Four Santeros players scored in double figures. At the losing side American guard Tu Holloway (183-89, college: Xavier) responded with 21 points and 4 assists and forward Luis Hernandez (198-88) scored 18 points and 4 steals. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Santeros moved-up to fifth place. Defending champion Piratas keep the second position with 11 games lost. Santeros will face bottom-ranked Humacao (#8) on the road in the next round. Piratas will play against Capitanes (#3) in Arecibo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
