Regular Season Round 20: Humacao - Aguada 83-66
Date: July 15, 2018
Bottom-ranked Humacao managed to get a ninth victory, breaking the eleven-game losing streak on Sunday night. This time newly promoted Humacao won against sixth-ranked Santeros 83-66. It's especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 17-point difference proves that Humacao was well-prepared to that game. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Santeros. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 5-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 83-66. Humacao made 17-of-19 free shots (89.5 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Brandon Costner (206-87, college: NC State) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 23 points and 13 rebounds and the other American import point guard Marcus Fillyaw (185-94, college: Ky Wesleyan) who added 15 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists during the contest. Four Humacao players scored in double figures. American-Venezuelan Donta Smith (201-83, college: SE Illinois JC) responded with 17 points and 4 assists and naturalized Dominican forward Jonathan Rodriguez (196-87, college: Campbell) scored 13 points and 7 rebounds. Santeros' coach rotated twelve players seeing no chance for a win. Newly promoted Humacao maintains eighth position with 9-19 record. Santeros at the other side keep the sixth place with 15 games lost. Humacao will meet higher ranked Cariduros (#4) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Santeros will play against Piratas and hope to secure a win.
