Regular Season Round 20: Arecibo - Quebradillas 91-90

The most exciting game of round 20 in the BSN took place in Arecibo. This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of one of their biggest challengers Piratas (17-13) to second ranked Capitanes (18-11) 91-90 in the game for the second place. Piratas were tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Capitanes made 25-of-29 free shots (86.2 percent) during the game. Capitanes outrebounded Piratas 40-29 including 27 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was American forward Davon Jefferson (204-86, college: USC) who scored 17 points and 9 rebounds. Nigerian-American power forward Chinemelu Elonu (206-87, college: Texas A&M) chipped in a double-double by scoring 11 points and 13 rebounds. Five Capitanes players scored in double figures. American guard Tu Holloway (183-89, college: Xavier) produced 36 points (!!!) and 8 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) and his fellow American import forward Reyshawn Terry (203-84, college: N.Carolina) added 29 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for the guests. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Capitanes have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 18-11 record having just two points less than leader Bayamon. Piratas lost fourth consecutive game. Defending champion keep the third place with 13 games lost. Capitanes are looking forward to face league's leader Vaqueros in Bayamon in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Piratas will play on the road against Santeros in Coamo and are hoping to prove to their fans that they can break losing series.
