Fourth-ranked Cariduros (14-17) used its home court advantage to challenge second ranked Capitanes (20-11) in Fajardo. The visitors from Arecibo managed to secure only two-point victory 85-83. However their fans expected easier game. Cariduros were ahead by 5 points at the halftime before a 47-40 second half run of Capitanes. They made 17-of-21 charity shots (81.0 percent) during the game. Naturalized U.S. Virgin Islands point guard Walter Hodge (183-86, college: Florida) stepped up and scored 32 points and 4 assists for the winners and Nigerian-American power forward Chinemelu Elonu (206-87, college: Texas A&M) chipped in 10 points and 17 rebounds. Capitanes' coach Rafael Cruz allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. The best for the losing side was the former international point guard Carlos Arroyo (188-79, college: FIU, agency: Interperformances) with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 10 assists and American forward Reginald Buckner (206-91, college: Mississippi) produced a double-double by scoring 19 points and 15 rebounds. Four Cariduros players scored in double figures. The victory was the eighth consecutive win for Capitanes. They maintain second place with 20-11 record behind leader Bayamon. Cariduros lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the fifth position with 17 games lost. Capitanes will play against Santeros (#6) in Coamo in the next round. Cariduros will play again at home against the league's second-placed Capitanes and hope to get back on the winning track.
