Regular Season Round 21: Bayamon - Humacao 96-89

Date: July 17, 2018
No shocking result in a game when first ranked Vaqueros (21-10) beat bottom-ranked Humacao (10-20) in Bayamon 96-89 on Tuesday. Humacao trailed by 16 points after 3 quarters before a 28-19 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 89-96 at the end of the game. Vaqueros looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Humacao was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for the former international point guard Javier Gonzalez (185-89, college: NC State) who led his team to a victory with 18 points and 6 rebounds. Cuban center Ismael Romero (203-91) contributed with 11 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Gonzalez is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American forward Brandon Costner (206-87, college: NC State) answered with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 14 rebounds and the other American import guard Zach Graham (198-89, college: Mississippi, agency: Pro Sports) added 25 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Humacao. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Vaqueros. They maintain first place with 21-10 record. Newly promoted Humacao stay at the bottom position with 20 games lost. Vaqueros will face Piratas (#3) in Quebradillas in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Humacao will play on the road against Leones (#4) in Juana Diaz and hope to win that game.
