Regular Season Round 21: Bayamon - Arecibo 82-85

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Vaqueros (21-10) in Bayamon on Thursday night. Hosts were edged by second ranked Capitanes (20-11) 85-82. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Vaqueros. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. Vaqueros trailed by 12 points after 3 quarters before a 24-15 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 82-85 at the end of the game. Capitanes made 17-of-19 free shots (89.5 percent) during the game. It was a good game for American forward Davon Jefferson (204-86, college: USC) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 10 rebounds. The former international swingman David Huertas (195-87, college: Mississippi) contributed with 19 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Capitanes' coach Rafael Cruz used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Cuban center Ismael Romero (203-91) answered with 16 points and 6 rebounds and the former international point guard Javier Gonzalez (185-89, college: NC State) added 12 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Vaqueros. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Capitanes have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. They maintain second place with 20-11 record behind leader Bayamon. Vaqueros at the other side still keep top position with ten games lost. Capitanes are looking forward to face Cariduros (#5) in Fajardo in the next round. Vaqueros will play at home against Piratas (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
