Regular Season Round 22: Fajardo - Arecibo 91-78

Very important is a road loss of second ranked Capitanes (20-13) against sixth ranked Cariduros (15-17) on Sunday night. Visiting Capitanes were defeated by Cariduros in Fajardo 91-78. It was a very close game until the last quarter, when Cariduros's pressure prevailed and they won that period 33-22 extending their advantage to 13 points. They made 18-of-21 charity shots (85.7 percent) during the game. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Reginald Buckner (206-91, college: Mississippi) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 25 points and 13 rebounds. The former international point guard Carlos Arroyo (188-79, college: FIU, agency: Interperformances) contributed with 7 points, 5 rebounds and 12 assists for the winners. Four Cariduros players scored in double figures. Nigerian-American power forward Chinemelu Elonu (206-87, college: Texas A&M) replied with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 13 rebounds and naturalized U.S. Virgin Islands point guard Walter Hodge (183-86, college: Florida) added 11 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists in the effort for Capitanes. Capitanes' coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Cariduros moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Ponce. Capitanes at the other side keep the second position with 13 games lost. Cariduros' next round opponent will be again league's second-placed Capitanes in Arecibo and it may be the game of the week. Capitanes will play at home against the league's leader Vaqueros and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
