Seventh-ranked Atleticos (12-20) made lots of trouble for fourth ranked Leones (17-17) in Juana Diaz on Monday. Leones managed to secure only three-point victory 99-96. However their fans expected easier game. Leones made 22-of-28 free shots (78.6 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Leones made 7 blocks. It was a great evening for Victor Liz (193-86, agency: Basket Management Solutions) who led his team to a victory scoring 23 points and 5 rebounds. The former international swingman Angel-Daniel Vassallo (198-86, college: Virginia Tech) helped adding 25 points. American-Portuguese Jeremiah Wilson (205-88, college: Tarleton St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 13 rebounds and the former international guard Gary Browne (185-93, college: W.Virginia) scored 16 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Leones maintains fourth place with 17-17 record. Atleticos at the other side keep the seventh position with 20 games lost. Leones will meet at home Santeros (#6) in the next round. Atleticos will play against Humacao and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
