Regular Season Round 23: Arecibo - Bayamon 101-95

Round 23 in BSN means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Arecibo where host Capitanes (22-13) beat league's leader Vaqueros (21-12) 101-95 on Tuesday evening. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Vaqueros trailed by 12 points after 3 quarters before a 32-26 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 95-101 at the end of the game. Capitanes made 27-of-33 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was the former international swingman David Huertas (195-87, college: Mississippi) who scored 21 points and 4 assists. Naturalized U.S. Virgin Islands point guard Walter Hodge (183-86, college: Florida) chipped in 18 points and 5 assists. Capitanes' coach Rafael Cruz used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international Javier Mojica (190-84, college: Cent.Conn.St.) produced 25 points and Cuban center Ismael Romero (203-91) added 17 points and 8 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) respectively for the guests. Five Capitanes and four Vaqueros players scored in double figures. Capitanes keep a position of league leader. Vaqueros lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the second place with 12 games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Arecibo. Vaqueros will play next round against Cariduros trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Capitanes will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Piratas in Quebradillas.
