Regular Season Round 23: Humacao - Ponce 87-98

There was no surprise when 8th ranked Humacao (12-22) was defeated at home by fourth ranked Leones (17-17) 98-87 on Wednesday. The guests trailed by 10 points after first quarter, but they stormed back and won the game by 11 points. Leones looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists. The best player for the winners was the former international center Peter Ramos (222-85) who had a double-double by scoring 12 points and 14 rebounds. The former international swingman Edwin Ubiles (198-86, college: Siena) chipped in 18 points and 5 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). Leones' coach Wilhelmus Caanen allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American forward Brandon Costner (206-87, college: NC State) produced 17 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists and guard Rasham Suarez (190-92, college: S.Mississippi) added 20 points respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Leones maintains fourth place with 17-17 record. Newly promoted Humacao stay at the bottom position with 22 games lost. Leones will face Santeros (#6) in Coamo in the next round. Humacao will play on the road against Atleticos in San German and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
