Regular Season Round 9: Calero - La Salle CBBA 89-74

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Calero as it allowed them to take a leadership position after previous leader's (CAN Oruro) loss. Calero defeated 4th placed La Salle CBBA in Potosi 89-74. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of La Salle CBBA. Calero forced 31 La Salle CBBA turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists. American swingman Mike Liabo (198-91, college: Tenn-Martin, agency: Interperformances) nailed 20 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals for the winning side and the former international forward Cristhian Camargo (194-92) accounted for 15 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists. Liabo is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Four Calero players scored in double figures. Uruguayan forward Miguel Barriola (191-90) came up with 20 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists and American forward Joe Efese (198, college: Cent.Conn.St.) added 21 points and 9 rebounds respectively for La Salle CBBA in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. As mentioned above they took over a top position. La Salle CBBA at the other side dropped to the fifth place with four games lost. La Salle CBBA will play next round against strong Amistad trying to get back on the winning streak. Calero will try to continue on its current victory against fourth ranked Carl A-Z at Oruro.
