Second Stage Round 1: Arecibo - Fajardo 104-100

The most important game of round 1 took place in Arecibo where Capitanes beat Cariduros (0-1) 104-100 on Tuesday night. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 3-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 104-100. Capitanes made 26-of-33 free shots (78.8 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. 29 personal fouls committed by Cariduros helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Naturalized U.S. Virgin Islands point guard Walter Hodge (183-86, college: Florida) stepped up and scored 34 points (!!!) and 5 assists for the winners and the former international swingman David Huertas (195-87, college: Mississippi) chipped in 20 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists. At the losing side the former international point guard Carlos Arroyo (188-79, college: FIU, agency: Interperformances) responded with 27 points and 9 assists (made all of his thirteen free throws !!!) and American forward Reginald Buckner (206-91, college: Mississippi) produced a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds. Four Capitanes and five Cariduros players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game.
