Vaqueros (2-1) recorded a loss in Coamo on Thursday night. Visitors were defeated by Santeros (1-1) 94-88. Vaqueros trailed by 14 points after 3 quarters before a 28-20 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 88-94 at the end of the game. Santeros forced 19 Vaqueros turnovers. Strangely Vaqueros outrebounded Santeros 39-23 including a 29-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists comparing to just 16 passes made by Vaqueros' players. 28 personal fouls committed by Vaqueros helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was the former international forward Gilberto Clavell (200-89, college: Sam Houston St.) who scored 22 points and 5 steals. Naturalized Polish point guard Francis-Jonathan Han (185-87, college: Fairfield) chipped in a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 assists. Four Santeros players scored in double figures. International Ramon Clemente (200-85, college: Wichita St.) produced 22 points and 9 rebounds and the former international Javier Mojica (190-84, college: Cent.Conn.St.) added 22 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the guests. Vaqueros' coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Santeros is looking forward to face Capitanes in Arecibo in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Vaqueros will play on the road against Leones in Juana Diaz and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
