An exciting game was played in Juana Diaz. Leones faced Vaqueros. Host Leones (2-2) defeated guests from Bayamon (2-2) 97-86. Vaqueros were ahead by 2 points at the halftime before a 33-15 third quarter run of Leones. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 27 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Vaqueros' players. It was an exceptional evening for the former international swingman Angel-Daniel Vassallo (198-86, college: Virginia Tech) who led the winners and scored 23 points. International point guard Carlos Rivera (187-83, college: Hofstra) accounted for 15 points, 6 assists and 4 steals for the winning side. Five Leones players scored in double figures. Nigerian-American power forward Ikechukwu Diogu (204-83, college: Arizona St.) came up with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds and international point guard Javier Gonzalez (185-89, college: NC State) added 22 points respectively for Vaqueros in the defeat. Leones' next round opponent will be Santeros (#3) in Coamo, which may be the game of the day. Vaqueros will play on the road against Capitanes in Arecibo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
