Regular Season Round 1: Crvena Zvezda - Ratiopharm 88-73

The biggest surprise of round 1 in Eurocup took place in Beograd where host Serbian Crvena Zvezda (1-0) beat German ratiopharm Ulm (0-1) 88-73 on Tuesday evening. The game was mostly controlled by Crvena Zvezda. ratiopharm Ulm managed to win second period 22-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Crvena Zvezda looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Nigerian center Michael Ojo (216-93, college: Florida St.) fired a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winners. American point guard Billy Baron (188-90, college: Canisius, agency: Octagon Europe) chipped in 19 points. Ojo is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Tongan-New Zealand forward Isaac Fotu (203-93, college: Hawaii) produced 16 points and 6 rebounds and American-Montenegrin forward Javonte Green (196-93, college: Radford) added 10 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. ratiopharm Ulm will play next round against strong Galatasaray trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Crvena Zvezda will try to continue on its current victory against Monaco on the road.
