Regular Season Round 5: Liceo Frances - Rivas 68-70

We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams in Madrid where eleventh ranked Rivas (2-3) edged 10th ranked Liceo Frances (1-3) 70-68 on Saturday. Liceo Frances trailed by 12 points after 3 quarters before a 24-14 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 68-70 at the end of the game. The best player for the winners was American center Julien Sargent (211-91, college: Mobile, AL) who had a double-double by scoring 15 points and 14 rebounds. Eduardo Martinez (193-96) chipped in 19 points and 8 rebounds. Finnish forward Juho Gummerus (201-97) produced 20 points and 7 rebounds and point guard Andres Rico (189-97) added 19 points respectively for the hosts. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Rivas moved-up to eighth place in Group B, which they share with Lanzarote and Zentro Basket. Liceo Frances lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the twelfth position with three games lost. Rivas will face higher ranked Alcobendas (#5) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
