Regular Season Round 5: Gran Canaria II - Casvi 68-65
Date: October 20, 2018
There was no surprise in Las Palmas where 13th ranked Casvi (1-4) was edged by leader Gran Canaria II (5-0) 68-65 on Saturday. However just three-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Gran Canaria II made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. They also forced 23 Casvi turnovers and outrebounded them 47-28 including a 17-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was Senegalese center Khalifa Diop (208-2) who had a double-double by scoring 13 points and 12 rebounds. Polish center Aleksander Balcerowski (216-0, agency: Octagon Europe) chipped in a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds. Four Gran Canaria II players scored in double figures. American forward Matthew Dahlen (201-95, college: St.Martin's) produced 20 points and 6 rebounds and Danish guard Emil Hjorth (196-96) added 17 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Gran Canaria II have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain first place in Group B with 5-0 record. Loser Casvi keeps the thirteenth position with four games lost. Gran Canaria II will face Daimiel (#15) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Casvi will play against Liceo Frances and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
