Regular Season Round 5: Novy Jicin - Opava B 80-79

The most exciting game of round 5 in the 1Liga took place in Novy Jicin. This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of 6th ranked B&W Opava B (2-3) to fifth ranked Novy Jicin (3-1) 80-79 on Sunday evening. Novy Jicin shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 54.5 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by B&W Opava B's players. Guard Jan Kelar (193-97) stepped up and scored 22 points and 6 rebounds for the winners and center Tadeas Janik (201-94) chipped in 17 points and 10 rebounds. Novy Jicin's coach David Hajek used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Jakub Slavik (200-99) responded with 36 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) and forward Krystof Vlcek (195-91) scored 10 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Novy Jicin have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to third place in East. B&W Opava B at the other side dropped to the seventh position with three games lost. Novy Jicin are looking forward to face Vysocina (#5) in Jihlava in the next round. B&W Opava B will play at home against the league's leader BK Prostejov B and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
