Regular Season Round 7: Toyama Grouses - Kyoto Hannar. 95-64

The game had a very big importance for third-ranked Toyama Grouses as it allowed them to take a leadership position after previous leader's (Toshiba Thunders) loss. Toyama Grouses smashed 3rd placed Kyoto Hannar. at home 95-64. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Toyama Grouses dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Kyoto Hannar.'s 32. They outrebounded Kyoto Hannar. 39-24 including 28 on the defensive glass. It was a great shooting night for Toyama Grouses especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 55.6 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. It was a great evening for American forward Leo Lyons (206-87, college: Missouri) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists. His fellow American import center Joshua Smith (208-92, college: Georgetown) helped adding 15 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Four Toyama Grouses players scored in double figures. At the losing side Zimbabwean-American Julian Mavunga (203-90, college: Miami, OH, agency: Pensack Sports) responded with 13 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and American center David Simon (208-82, college: PFW) scored 18 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Toyama Grouses have a solid series of three victories in a row. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Nagoya DD and Chiba Jets. Kyoto Hannar. at the other side dropped to the second place with three games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Kyoto Hannar. will play next round against Fukuoka Rizing trying to get back on the winning streak. Toyama Grouses will try to continue on its current victory against fourth ranked Aishin Sea Horses at Kariya.
