Regular Season Round 4: Valur - KR 79-95

Bottom-ranked Valur (0-4) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 95-79 loss to sixth ranked KR (3-1) in Reykjavik on Friday evening. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. The game without a history. KR led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. KR outrebounded Valur 41-28 including a 15-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. Guard Emil Barja (192-91) fired a double-double by scoring 17 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. International guard Jon Stefansson (192-82) chipped in 22 points. American point guard Kendall Anthony (173-93, college: Richmond) produced a double-double by scoring 27 points and 12 assists and Bulgarian forward Aleks Simeonov (200-93) added 21 points and 6 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws) respectively for lost side. Valur's coach Agust Bjoergvinsson rotated ten players seeing no chance for a win. Defending champion moved-up to second place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Valur still closes the standings with four games lost. KR will face league's leader Tindastoll in Sauoarkrokur in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Valur will play on the road against Grindavik (#10) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
