No shocking result in a game in Mexico where second ranked Capitanes (7-2) defeated 5th ranked Libertadores (4-7) 92-85 on Thursday. Capitanes forced 19 Libertadores turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Libertadores were plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. Cuban center Ismael Romero (203-91) fired a double-double by scoring 21 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. Dominican guard Rigoberto Mendoza (190-92) chipped in 23 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. American swingman Brent Jackson (193-94, college: Columbus St.) produced 30 points and his fellow American import power forward Gerard DeVaughn (206-88, college: Stillman) added 11 points and 20 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Capitanes keep a position of league leader, which they share with Aaguacateros and Fuerza Regia. Loser Libertadores dropped to the sixth place with seven games lost. Capitanes will face again Libertadores (#6) in Queretaro in the next round where they are favorite.
